Ingredients

Fresh fennel seeds, peppermint leaves, and sliced ginger root
  • Fennel Seeds
    Foeniculum vulgare
    1 tablespoon
    Organic preferred, lightly crushed just before use to release essential oils
  • Fresh Peppermint Leaves
    Mentha × piperita
    2 tablespoons
    Fresh young leaves preferred, or 1 tablespoon high-quality dried leaves
  • Fresh Ginger Root
    Zingiber officinale
    1 inch
    Young ginger preferred for milder taste, peeled and thinly sliced
  • Water
    2 cups
    Filtered or spring water preferred, heated to just below boiling (90°C/195°F)

Instructions

Prepare Ingredients

Lightly crush the fennel seeds to release their oils. Wash the peppermint leaves. Peel and thinly slice the ginger root.

Combine

Place the crushed fennel seeds, peppermint leaves, and sliced ginger in a teapot or heat-safe container.

Add Hot Water

Bring water to a boil, then let it cool for about 1 minute (to about 90°C/195°F). Pour over the herbs.

Steep

Cover and let steep for 10-15 minutes to allow the herbs to release their beneficial compounds.

Strain

Strain the tonic into cups, removing all plant material.

Notes

This tonic can be enjoyed either warm or at room temperature. For a stronger digestive effect, you can increase the steeping time up to 20 minutes.

Dosage

Drink one cup (240ml) after meals or when experiencing digestive discomfort. Can be consumed up to 3 times daily.
